Carousel

Poem written by Tessa Truzzolino

The place looks new

Only the outside

New paint

New sign

The arcade games actually work

Huh, that’s new too

But the biggest change

the saddest change

The carousel is gone

That small, glittering glimpse of joy

My childhood is suddenly gone

Like the painted horses came to life

And walked away

“It’s ok” I tell myself

“At least the pizza is the same”

It’s the memories

Not the thing

Some people stink like that carpet

Thats been sitting there since I was born

Or the cigarette smoke

From the casino inside

It smells the same

Greasy pizza and wilted salad

That's nice

It’s the memories

Not the thing
